1. Determine appropriate amount of chlorine to pour in well (See Table). Disinfection should be accomplished by maintaining a 100mg/L solution of chlorine in the well for 24 hours. Generally, for shallow wells the amount is one quart of Clorox for every six feet of standing water in the well. Deep wells require more and may need more than one chlorination process.

2. Pour Clorox in the well.
3. Run all of the water taps in the house until the smell of chlorine is detected.
4. Turn off all taps and do not use any water for a 24 hour period.
5. After 24 hours run garden hose outside until no scent of chlorine is present.
6. Run taps in the house until no scent of chlorine is present.
