Remove aerator from faucet where the sample is to be drawn. The faucet should be flushed briefly then flamed. Care should be taken not to damage any rubber or plastic parts of the faucet. The water sample you collect must have no scent of chlorine and the container you collect the sample in should be obtained from Patton Harris Rust and Associates. Do not rinse out bottle. The white tablet or granules present must remain in the bottle.
With all preparation complete, the bottle should be used as follows:
- Break seal on bottle and unscrew cap being careful not to touch inside of cap or bottle.
- Fill bottle to the 100ml line from the cold water tap. Do not overfill. A pocket of air should be left above the fill line.
- Replace and tighten cap.
- Once sample has been taken, return to our lab within 24 hours and no later than 4:00PM on weekdays.
- When filling out information form be thorough, especially if results are to be mailed to an address different from the site of sample collection.
NOTE: Following these procedures are beneficial to you in that the chances for bacteria being present due to poor sampling techniques will be minimized.
